Code of Conduct
IYAA Sportsmanship & Conduct Guidelines
Purpose
The Independence Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) is a not-for-profit organization founded to provide worthwhile activities for the youth in Independence. Youth must attend school (public, private, or parochial) in the City of Independence or live within the city limits of Independence.
Since its inception, IYAA has been guided by a dedication to high standards of teaching skills, sportsmanship, and fair play—and by its commitment to every boy and girl in the league.
IYAA considers its activities a service to the community and acknowledges that its success depends on the generous donation of time and expertise by volunteers from the community.
⸻
Sportsmanship
Teaching good sportsmanship is the most important goal of the program. The proper conduct of coaches, players, parents, and spectators is essential to achieving that goal. The IYAA Board of Directors and referees monitor the conduct of everyone involved in the program.

Code of Conduct
Players
Players are expected to:
1. Demonstrate a positive attitude and good sportsmanship toward team, school, and community on and off the playing floor.
2. Attend regularly scheduled games and practices. If unable to attend, notify the coach.
3. Refrain from using abusive or profane language at all times.
4. Refrain from fighting with or without provocation. Fighting will not be tolerated and suspension will be invoked.
⸻
Coaches
Coaches are expected to:
1. Make the development of the players’ physical, mental, and moral character the prime consideration.
2. Set a good example both at games and away from league activities.
3. Maintain control of the team at all times, while using good judgment and tact when dealing with players, parents, and officials.
4. Avoid unnecessary displays as a result of an official’s call. Officials’ judgment calls are not grounds for a complaint.

⸻
Parents & Spectators
Parents/guardians and guests are expected to:
1. Promote proper conduct at all times for themselves and any guests while attending games.
2. Refrain from abusive or profane language toward players, coaches, referees, or scorekeepers at any time.
3. Ensure their child is at practices and games as scheduled.
4. Refrain from fighting with or without provocation. Fighting will not be tolerated and suspension will be invoked.

Any infraction of these Conduct Guidelines by players, coaches, or parents will be reviewed by the IYAA Board for possible disciplinary action.
The IYAA Board sincerely hopes your season will be fun and rewarding for all participants.
